Starting Junior Infants

Enrollment

All parents who want to enroll their child in Junior Infants can do so via our online pre-enrollment form. Our admissions policy can be found here, or to go directly to the enrollment form click here.

Meet and Greet Afternoon

Each year parents/guardians and incoming Junior Infants are invited to casually meet their teacher and fellow classmates in the Junior Infants classroom. We will need to have your contact details in order to be able to let you know when this is on.
During the afternoon we will talk through this Padlet, which is full of information specific to Junior Infants starting our school.

Preparing you child for school

All Junior Infants should be able to do the following:
  • Open and close their coat and hang it up.
  • Be fully toilet trained and able to use the toilet without help, flush the toilet, wash and dry their hands.
  • Share toys and take turns.
  • Tidy up and put away things.
  • Open and close all compartments of their school bag.
  • Manage their lunch i.e. open and close lunch box, drinks, sandwich boxes, open yogurt lids, peel their own orange etc.
If your child can not tie shoe laces choose shoes with velcro fasteners.
If they can not manage trouser buttons or zip’s choose elasticated trousers.

School Times

  • Supervised outdoor play begins at 8:50 every morning. This allows the children to get fresh air and exercise so that they are ready to learn.
  • School starts at 9.00am
  • Junior and Senior Infants finish at 1:40pm
  • 1st – 6th Class finish at 2:40pm
For a few weeks in September Junior Infants will have shorter days, with the amount of time in school slowly increasing. This makes for an easier transition for you and your child
Please Note:
Where children are dropped before 8:50 parents / guardians must be aware that there is no supervision prior to this time, unless the child is enrolled in the Breakfast Club. The school is responsible for children during school hours only.

Breakfast Club

There is an on site Breakfast Club, open from 8:00. This is run based on numbers. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required. Please contact breakfastclub@monaseedns.ie to book or for more information.

The 2-3 Club

All Junior and Senior Infants who wish to participate in the 2-3 Club may do so. This facilitates one later pick up for families. It is run on a pay by day basis so no commitment is required.

The Afterschool Club

Court Afterschool host an on site after school club, the details for which can be found here.

Lunch Times & Healthy Eating

  • First break is at 11:00
  • Lunch is at 12:50
We promote a healthy eating policy for all our students. All students must bring healthy lunches. No sweets or crisps are allowed. Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are sugar free. On Friday students are allowed to bring one small bar. We remind parents to be aware of the high sugar content in some types of yoghurt snacks and fruit based drinks. We encourage all students to include fruit and vegetables in their lunches.
For some healthy lunch ideas check out the following websites:

Uniform

The Uniform consists of:
  • Green Jumper/Cardigan with school crest (available at Funges and Liddy’s in Main Street, Gorey)
  • White top/polo shirt
  • Grey trousers / pinafore / skirt or navy tracksuit bottoms. Leggings are not allowed.
Please label all pupils clothes and belongings with their names.

Drop Off and Collection From School

As a safety measure when dropping or collecting children from school parents/guardians are asked to park across the road and use the pedestrian crossing.

Parking

There are plenty of parking spaces in the carpark across from the school, beside the playground. Parents are asked to park here and use the pedestrian crossing. Please do not park and drop at the school wall as it is not safe.

Book List

A benefit of our Book Rental system is that all books and copies are supplied. You will only need to supply the school bag, stationary, lunch box and pencil case.

Communication with Monaseed NS

Monaseed NS uses the Aladdin Connect app. In September a code will be sent to you enabling access to the app. The school will send out notifications during the school year, keeping you up to date with events and activities happening within the school, as well as PTA fundraisers. This app is also the recommended means of communicating with your child’s class teacher.

Gorey library is our nearest public library. During the summers they run a scheme with books for Junior Infants to keep, so keep an eye out! For older children they also run the Summer Stars scheme. The mobile library also stops in Hollyfort.
