Guidelines for Parents/Guardians

School Times

  • Supervised outdoor play begins at 8:50 every morning. This allows the children to get fresh air and exercise so that they are ready to learn.
  • School starts at 9.00am
  • Junior and Senior Infants finish at 1:40pm
  • 1st – 6th Class finish at 2:40pm
For a few weeks in September Junior Infants will have shorter days, with the amount of time in school slowly increasing. This makes for an easier transition for you and your child.
Please Note:
Where children are dropped before 8:50 parents/guardians must be aware that there is no supervision. The school is responsible for children during school hours only.

Sam’s Club

All Junior and Senior Infants who wish to participate in Sam’s Club may do so. This facilitates one later pick up for families. It is run on a pay by day basis so no commitment is required.

Lunch Times & Healthy Eating

  • First break is at 11:00
  • Lunch is at 1:00
We promote a healthy eating policy for all our students. All students must bring healthy lunches. No sweets or crisps are allowed. Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are sugar free. On Fridays students are allowed to bring one small treat. We remind parents to be aware of the high sugar content in some types of yoghurt snacks and fruit based drinks. We encourage all students to include fruit and vegetables in their lunches.
For some healthy lunch ideas check out the following websites:

Uniform

The Uniform consists of:
  • Green Jumper/Cardigan with school crest (available at Funges and Liddy’s in Main Street, Gorey)
  • White top/polo shirt
  • Grey trousers / pinafore / skirt or navy tracksuit bottoms
  • Tracksuit style shorts or GAA shorts can be worn in Summer. No Nike pros or similar.
Please label all pupils clothes and belongings with their names.

Drop Off and Collection From School

As a safety measure when dropping or collecting children from school parents/guardians are asked to park across the road and use the pedestrian crossing.

Parking

There are plenty of parking spaces in the carpark across from the school, beside the playground. Parents are asked to park here and use the pedestrian crossing. Please do not park and drop at the school wall as it is not safe.

Book List

A benefit of our Book Rental system is that all books and copies are supplied. You will only need to supply the school bag, lunch box, pencil case, crayons and pens/pencils.

Communication from Monaseed NS

Monaseed NS uses the Aladdin Connect app. In September a code will be sent to you enabling access to the app. The school will send out notifications during the school year, keeping you up to date with events and activities happening within the school, as well as PTA fundraisers.
Monaseed NS encourages parents to use Aladdin as their primary means of initiating communication with teachers as the phone and email are only operated during Office hours. All communication with staff members regarding your child should go through the class teacher first.

Useful Resources

Gorey library is our nearest public library. During the summers they run a scheme with free books for Junior Infants and run the Summer Stars scheme for older kids so keep an eye out. The mobile library also stops at our school every second Friday.
The NCCA has developed a number of resources to help you to support your child’s learning in primary school.
