Extra Curricular Activities

GAA

​Our school has a strong tradition of G.A.A. for both boys and girls. We are involved in hurling, camogie & Gaelic football. Most of our students also play with our local G.A.A club.

Swimming

2nd to 6th class take part in Swimming Lessons every year. Swimming Lessons are held in Courtown Leisure Centre.

Irish Sign Language

Every week children learn a new ISL sign and practice using it during the school day.

Choir

Students sing in a school choir for Communion, Confirmation and the local Children's Christmas Eve Mass.

Gymnastics

Every year a gymnastics coach completes six sessions with all classes, developing strength, flexibility and gymnastic skills.

Computer Classes

All students from Junior Infants up to 6th class are taught by an ECDL qualified teacher on a weekly basis.

School Savings Scheme

Children are encouraged to save using our school savings scheme, which is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They can access their savings at any point during the year on those days, provided they give prior notice to the school. Many students use this scheme to help alleviate the cost of moving to secondary school.

Heart to Hand Appeal

Monaseed NS is a yearly supporter the Heart to Hand appeal. Our pupils demonstrate great empathy every year with all they donate. We are so proud of them!

Drumming

A drumming instructor visits the school during the school year from Rhythm and Shakes.

Trips

Pupils are regularly brought on educational trips during the school year. This year has included a trip to Carnew Mart, Gorey Little Theatre and Carnew Pantomime.

School Garden

Every year our classes cultivate a garden. We have recently planted an apple and plum orchard. We have a vegetable garden and use the harvest to make soup. Prior to leaving Monaseed NS 6th class sow wild flower seeds for everyone to enjoy when they return in September.

Food Dudes

Food Dudes encourages students to eat more fruit and vegetables. It is based on repeated tastings of fresh fruit and vegetables, rewards and positive role models.
