Inspector’s Report

Maths Curriculum Evaluation

We’re delighted to share the outcomes of the recent Mathematics curriculum evaluation of Monaseed National School, carried out by the Department of Education. This evaluation looked closely at how mathematics is taught and learned across the school and how planning supports pupil learning.

First and foremost, a huge thank-you to our teachers for their dedication, pupils for their enthusiasm and engagement in learning, and parents and guardians for your ongoing support every step of the way — this strong community partnership is reflected in the very positive findings of the report!

What the Report Found

  • Pupils are doing very well in Mathematics. They show strong understanding and can apply maths in real-life situations.

  • Lessons are engaging and varied. Teachers blend clear teaching with hands-on and collaborative learning that pupils enjoy.

  • Teaching practice and planning are strong. Our staff work well together to ensure consistency and support for learners across classrooms.

Opportunities for Growth

The report also included a couple of recommendations to build on our strengths:

  • Providing more regular opportunities for pupils to explain their thinking as they solve maths problems.

  • Making formative assessment — that is, spotting pupils’ learning needs during lessons and adjusting teaching in the moment — even more consistent.

What We’re Doing Next

The school community has welcomed the inspector’s findings and is already using the recommendations to plan further improvements. Staff have begun refining approaches to assessment and pupil talk in mathematics to deepen learning even more.

Thanks again to everyone — teachers, pupils, parents and guardians — for everything you contributed to this process. Your partnership continues to make Monaseed NS a place where children flourish in maths and beyond!
